From 1952 to 1956, he was an assistant professor of history and political science at St. Olaf College, Northfield, and in 1956-1957 was on the staff of UNICEF in New York.

He was the author of "Pastoral Care of Alcoholics: An Introduction," published by Hazelden, "One Man's published by New Hanover and several monographs on history and politics. was born in Chicago, a son of the late Conrad J. and Gertrude (Carlson) Bergendoff. His father was president of Augustana College, Rock Island, for 25 years. Survivors include a daughter, Rondi Bergendoff, Brooklyn, N.Y.; son, Bruce, Kristiansand, Norway; three grandchildren; sisters, Elizabeth Thulin, Gettysburg, and Beatrice Wilson, Milwaukee; and his first wife, Marlowe Bergendoff, Exeter, N.H.

She married Henry E. Faith on Dec. 14, 1951, in Fort Madison, Iowa. He preceded her in death in December 1978. She married Charlie Brinkley on June 19, 1981, in Rock Island.

Military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post and VFW Post 1303, Rock Island, of which he was a member. Thomas was born Aug. 1, 1920, in Moline, the son of Herbert and Kathryn (Billburg) Cutter.

His father was one of the original draftsman for the Arsenal Bridge. His grandfather was Anthony Billburg, the former owner of The New Billburg Bar built in 1914. It was located on 20th Street in Rock Island and was the home of the longest bar in the world. Mr. Cutter served in the Army during World War II.

On Oct. 2, 1950, he married Martha Jean Kress, a former New York City Rockette. They had two children, Loren Ann and Lynn Marie. He later married Marella J. McNamara in 1976 in Quincy, Ill.

She preceded him in death July 27, 1985. Before serving in the Army, Mr. Cutter worked as a draftsman for the U.S. Government from 1937 to 1942. After serving in the Army, he was employed as a salesman for 21 years at Pacific Manufacturing Co.

and from 1968 to 1979, he was employed by the city of Rock Island. He was a member of Trio Masonic Lodge 57, Rock Island. Survivors include daughters, Loren Giorgio, Palos Verdes Estates, and Lynn CutterGronke, Torrance, and a granddaughter, Lisa Crawford, San Francisco.
